Depending on the version of Java.


If you are using Java 1.1, you can still access files in the base directory where the applet was executed from. If you are using 1.2 or above, you might have to use a security policy file to get around the securiy issue.


Just get on the www.javasoft.com and search for java security. You will find some helpful examples on generating keys and setting up a security policy file.
