Once an ftp connection is established, you are in the ftp session. That is, the ftp server on the UNIX server will be listening on the FTP port, not the standard input stream. You cannot really communicate with ftp server using the RunTime class.

Why don't you write a simple telnet client program to accomplish your objectives. I think that will be much easier and neater.
